Description
In this project you will be asked to create and design a book of 32 pages that is smaller than A4 but bigger than A5. Your task will be to:

1. Write 3000 words (English/Malay) on any subject that you are familiar with, for example: yourself, your family, someone who inspires you, your hometown, or an experience or an idea/belief that you feel strongly about, etc. The text content must be divided into 3 chapters minimum, it must also have 3/4/5 subtexts (sidebars) and one caption per chapter. You have 1 week for this.

2. Identify 16 areas in your written text for visualization, you may use any medium that is suitable for your topic/direction, for example: illustration, photography or mix-media. You have 3 weeks for this (after completing your 3000 words). As you proceed through the stages of the project you will be given exercises that will help prepare you for the following or the current stages of the project. Project 01 must be finished within 4 weeks. Requirements The student must document the above progression in their eportfolio and A4 hardcopy portfolio. The results of the two phases must be collated and presented in the sample format shown in class. The 3000 words is to be formatted and submitted on A4 paper, at 9pt Helvetica, 11pt leading, consisting of all textual information of the book from front cover to back cover. A thumbnail printout of all 16 visuals as shown in the sample produced in class.

Submission

Feedback

Week 3
Text is okay but add references other more details that is required. Visual references is okay as well but start practicing to add more details and elements from the tryout visuals.

Week 4
Visuals isn't really there yet as it look a bit 'foreign' (basically did not represent me). Also, start doodling visuals in the same geometric manner and keep in track of the three stages in the making of these visuals.

Week 5
Visuals on Monday : Isn't really impactful yet and most of them are in stage 1 work harder on arrangements and variety
Visuals on Friday : Correct a few of the visuals as it feel like a "try hard" visual and play around with the overlay of certain visuals.

Reflection

Experience
Week 1 was enjoyable for me as we have a short lecture and I was able to got back home early and have my rest. In week 3 I practised a few water colour painting and doodling for the tryouts of my visual and I have to say it was a calming experience for me. Week 4 starts to be a little busy for me as I experienced the time wasn't really enough for me to finish the 16 visuals in time. As for week 5, I sensed that I was starting to be a little bit more procrastinative and I then started to pay more attention to this module.

Observation
I observed that most of our classmates are still not ready for the workloads that is going to happen and so does me in week 1. On the other hand, I witnessed some of my classmates' book binding skills in week 3 and they were great! I also noted that week 4 seems a little funny because looking through tired faces from my classmates makes me feel entertained. During week 5, I saw several solid visuals from my classmates and I felt impressed from them!

Findings
I found out that this module will be both interesting and a hell for me in week 1. Week 3 was a normal week for me because I found out that I spent a lot of time in finishing the visuals which seems inefficient. Also, I realised that I am back with a typical life again, which is lack of sleep and time for myself to relax in week 4. Nevertheless, week 5 was a bit scary too because I realised that I did not scan the visuals into PC and thus, making me a little panic.

Books of the week

Week 1
Layout Look Book 2 by Max Weber

This book is an enjoyable experience as it showcases outstanding work by more than fifty of the world's best design studios and professionals working in print design today. Most of the layouts that is showcased is pretty playful yet it works well as a successful layout.

Week 2
The Greatest Hits of Corporate Layouts by PageOne

This book showed some  example of a corporate layouts that is well designed. It was somehow "unattractive" because visuals are mostly formal looking but somehow it catches my attentions as the layouts are clean and concise.

Week 3
The Newspaper Designer's Handbook by Tim Harrower

This book provides me solutions and knowledge to real-life newsroom situations. The handbook is informative and reader friendly with a witty edge to boot the humour up as well.

Week 4
Page Unlimited by PageOne

This book helps me understand the importance of layouts which is how it will be communicated through the feels and moods of a certain layout that ever designer wants to achieve. Communication is key!

Week 5
Grid Systems by Josef Müller-Brockmann

The book was able to show the objective and functional typography and graphic design for the development of regulative systems in visual communication. Also, a good understanding towards grid knowledge for my upcoming projects as well.
